Bishops’ Appeal has assisted in the funding of general education costs and the building of a new Kindergarten building

Dr Graham’s Homes and Gandhi Ashram School provide education opportunities for children from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Kalimpong, in the Darjeeling District of India. The groups are historically disadvantaged, often experiencing discrimination and a lack of opportunities.

Dr Graham’s Homes supports education for children from the age of three, right up to third level education. Gandhi Ashram School was founded in 1993, but recently had to be abandoned due to progressive land slippage following earth tremors and the annual monsoon. It is now necessary for a new school to be built. The first phase of this has been completed and the main classroom blocks are now operating. The next stage is the building of the Kindergarten section.
