IJM Stories of Impact and Transformation

Thanks to the support of Bishops Appeal a group of survivors of sexual violence in Peru called “Libres Para Servir,” was launched in July 2024. This group is composed of 22 incredible women with disabilities who are survivors of sexual violence. They are committed to advocating for justice and empowering other survivors. During the meeting, they established the network’s mission, vision and statutes. IJM will support them this year through leadership trainings, advocacy opportunities and facilitating their regular meetings. We are grateful for the opportunity to play a small part in this group’s pursuit of justice for vulnerable populations.

Child-friendly police stations (June 2024): Thanks to the support of Bishops Appeal, IJM supported two police stations in Lima to equip them with new waiting rooms and service spaces for women and children who have experienced violence. One of the stations now has a special room where children can wait while their parents or caregivers file complaints. This friendly environment provides a safe, confidential and comforting space for children during times of high vulnerability, mitigating the psychological impact of their traumatic experiences.
