History

The Church of Ireland Bishops’ Appeal was set up over 50 years ago as a response to natural disasters and needs worldwide.  Over the 50 years parishes and individuals within the Church of Ireland have given generously in response to a wide range of practical needs around the world.

In the last few years – since the 50th Anniversary video (that you can find below) was made – Bishops’ Appeal has been able to send significant amounts of money in response to natural disasters and emergencies in Libya, Ukraine, Morocco, Turkey and Syria, Gaza and the Middle East, Myanmar and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). We will continue to respond to emergencies around the world, with the generous support of individuals and parishes across the Church of Ireland.

Bishops’ Appeal has also been able to support projects which are designed to make a lasting difference – to address issues of education, poverty, health, agriculture, and advocacy.  We work with trusted partner agencies who provide due diligence and updates to ensure that the money you give is sent quickly and efficiently to where it is needed, and that every sum we spend is sent on the projects chosen by the advisory committee.

Our trusted partners include CMSI, Christian Aid, Tearfund, the Leprosy Mission, Self Help Africa, Mothers’ Union, SAMS, International Justice Mission and Fields of Life

None of this would have been possible without the generosity of many of you – through special collections in your parishes, through legacy gifts, through regular donations and Advent and Lent appeals.  Together we have been able to make a significant difference to people all around the world, who we may never meet, but to whom we have been able something of the kindness of Christ, giving to others from what he has given to us.
