Welcome to the introduction to a series of Church of Ireland Bishops' Appeal Newsletters. These newsletters aim to raise awareness of the work of Bishops' Appeal in the Church and also to discuss some of the issues facing the recipients of our aid. This introduction gives a brief overview of the work of Bishops' Appeal. You will find links to the newsletters at the bottom of this page.
Bishops' Appeal normally funds project requests from the main established agencies like Christian Aid, TearFund, CMS, USPG, Action Aid, and others.
Bishops' Appeal gives aid under four main headings:
- Emergency relief and special appeals
- Sustainable agriculture and rural development
- Health - including HIV/AIDS programmes
- Education
Bishops' Appeal can only help with the resources it receives from parishioners. These enabled us to pay out €654,574 and £160,741 in grants in 2007. Your generosity continues to help the less fortunate in the Majority world.
The newsletters are written by Martin O'Connor, Education Adviser, Bishops' Appeal. Please send any feedback, including suggestions for future topics, by email to Bishops' Appeal or by post to Bishops' Appeal, Church of Ireland House, Church Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6.
